Virgil is a village in Kane County. Illinois Route 64 passes through the village center, leading east 12 miles to St. Charles and west 8 miles to Sycamore. Names of Washington and Franklin were considered, the far western township formed on June 4, 1850 was given the classical Latin name of Virgil. In 1886, the Minnesota and Northwestern Railroad was built; it followed the route of the original Iowa Chicago Trail. Train access furthered growth around the stop at the corner of Iowa Chicago Trail and Meredith Road, known simply as Virgil. This small rural village is a great place to call home!
